    Instructional Retreat for AYSO Volunteers  
    August 1-3, 2025
     

    SECTION 2 IS OFFERING SOMETHING DIFFERENT!

    While at GGC you will have the opportunity to meet volunteers from different regions, share experiences, develop friendships, and learn together and from each other in a comfortable setting away from the distractions of our everyday lives.

    Golden Gate Camp offers courses from one day trainings to full weekend courses.

    Section 2 offers courses for any budget and availability. We have single day courses to a full weekend training experience which includes onsite accommodations and meals.

    OUR INSTRUCTORS:

    Golden Gate Camp brings in the top instructors in each of their disciplines. All of our instructors are seasoned volunteers and experienced in their roles. Many of them have instructed at the National level and at Expos, providing top notch instruction to all attendees.

    WHY CHOOSE GOLDEN GATE CAMP?

    Golden Gate Camp is a fully immersive training environment that provides extended class times for a deeper understanding of each topic and community building with other AYSO volunteers to share and learn from one another. Our program offers the option for lodging and meals for a full weekend of exceptional training.

    Golden Gate Camp is located in the heart of the Bay Area, at Menlo College in Atherton, CA.

    Weekend classes include dorm stay and all meals. If you are staying in the dorms please bring cash/check for your dorm key deposit of $50. When you return your key your deposit will be returned to you.  If you decide not to stay in the Menlo College dorms the weekend camp price does not change.

     
    If your class does not include a weekend dorm stay the dorm cost with meals is an additional $150 per night. 
     
    If a meal is not included with your class option, you are welcome to purchase meal through the portal.

    ADVANCED COACH

    AYSO Advanced coaches (16U and up) must know how to OBSERVE and EVALUATE any training session, game or activity in order to determine how to improve player performance.

    Pre-Requisites (REQUIRED)

    • -12U Coach course certification

    • -14U Coach (Intermediate) course certification

    • -AYSO Summary of the Laws of the Game (done online on AYSOU)

    • -Advanced Coach pre-course work (done online on AYSOU)

    • -Required Match Analysis submitted to the instructor/s before course start.

    • -Required Training Plan submitted to the instructor/s before course start.

    • -Reflection 1 assignment completed before course start.

    Advanced Coach Candidates will participate in a match vs the Intermediate Coach Candidates on Sunday following the Goalkeeper Certification.

    This course is Friday - Sunday with dorm lodging and meals provided. Please bring a key deposit of $50 (cash/check) that will be returned to you when you return your room key.

    GOALKEEPER CERT
     

    Learn the best ways to warm up your keepers for training sessions and on game day. On field demonstration will show you how to warm up and train your keeper to get them ready for the game. This sessions is for the coach that is newer the the 10U and 12U age divisions and wants to train their keepers better but also offers something for the Intermediate or Advanced coach looking to learn new activities for your training sessions.

    Pre Course Requirements:

    • Currently registered, and cleared, as a volunteer for the membership year

    • Complete 10U Coach course certification

    INTERMEDIATE COACH
     

    As an Intermediate Coach (14U), we will strive to educate players on how to read the game by going deeper into the Principles of Play and Phases of Play in our training and playing environments and focus on functional groups within a full team system We will review numerous formations and discuss strengths, weakness and tactics to play against.

    Pre-Requisites (REQUIRED)

    • -12U Coach course certification

    Learn effective ways to technically "polish" the mechanics for your soccer players. Discover periodization and how it affects your team, both short term and long term and also learn to better use the "Coaching Cycle" to maximize your team's potential at training sessions and determine exactly where the game time breakdowns are.

    RC TRAINING
     
     
    Part 1 – RC/AD Training Online Pre-Course – available on AYSOU under ONLINE COURSES/MANAGEMENT COURSES. This Pre-Course contains a review of key information and material that will be used in the Live Virtual Sessions. The course includes pre-work assignments for the Live Sessions which will confirm and finalize your completed RC Training certification. You may take this course at any time; however, it must be concluded prior to signing up for the Live Sessions. Another prerequisite is the Online Dispute Resolution/Due Process/Potential Threat review.
     
    Part 2 – A Live, in-person full-day Session – The full-day in-person sessions confirm certification for Regional Commissioners. Modules explore creating the AYSO Experience that best matches the local community, marketing AYSO’s values and programs, creating the AYSO volunteer culture and setting goals for the RC executive member term. The role of a fiduciary and the principles of Dispute Resolution and Due Process are also reviewed.
     
    This includes is a 1 day course.

K) REFEREE - Advanced Referee

    ADVANCED REFEREE
     

    This course provides training to Intermediate Referees in all aspects of the game and further deepens your officiating skills. You will work on recognizing complex issued or situations that involve critical judgement. You will learn to deal with send-offs and the finer points of misconduct and restarting the match You will have an opportunity to officiate part of a higher-level match and be evaluated by student assessors. The course includes the Advanced Referee written exam and the fitness test.

    Pre-requisites:

    • -Be certified as an Intermediate Referee or have completed the Intermediate Referee Course and passed the Intermediate Referee Exam.

    • -While being certified as an Intermediate Referee is not a prerequisite for taking this course, it is highly recommended. Additional you should have completed a number of games as both a Referee and as an Assistant Referee at the 12U or higher level in order to gain maximum benefit from this course.

    INTERMEDIATE REFEREE
     

    This course provides training to Regional Referees in all aspects of the game and develops skills to referee more challenging matches. This course advances to the tactics and strategies of players - an in-depth look at offside- identification of all fouls and misconduct - positioning and how to work and communicate as a referee team - how to mange player and coaches. You will also be on the field for drills on signaling and positioning.

    Pre-requisite:

    • -Be certified as a Regional Referee or have completed the Basic Referee Course and passed the Basic Referee Exam.

    • -While being certified as a Regional Referee is not a prerequisite for taking this course, it is highly recommended. Additionally, you should have completed many games as both a referee and as a assistant referee in order to fully benefit from this course.

    This course prepares Advanced Referees to officiate matches at the highest level in AYSO. The emphasis is on match management, how to be part of an effective referee team, decision-making skills, and techniques for dealing with volatile situations. This course provides you to be a leader and a mentor to other referees. The course includes the National Referee written exam and the fitness test.

    If you think that you may want to become a Coach, Management or Referee instructor, but are unsure if you really want to take that next step this is the class for you!

    If you are taking Coach or Referee instructor at GGC DO NOT SIGN UP FOR THIS CLASS.

    This course introduces potential AYSO instructors to the role of the AYSO instructor, the general aspects of presenting an AYSO course and engaging in post-course activities.

    The objectives of the Introduction to Instruction Course are:

    To make attendees aware of what it means to be an AYSO instructor.

    To educate potential AYSO instructor candidates in the basic instructional skills used to present AYSO courses.

    To familiarize attendees with the basic presentation methods they will use as AYSO instructors; lecture, demonstration and guided participation.

    To familiarize attendees with where to find and how to use course and lesson plans for AYSO instruction.

    To familiarize attendees with the use of visual aids in presenting AYSO courses.

    To make attendees aware of the types of questions and how to appropriately ask and answer questions as an AYSO instructor.

    To make attendees aware of the additional requirements to complete instructor training and certification.

    There are no specific prerequisites to attend the Introduction to Instruction course. However, attendees who attend the course are expected to be currently registered AYSO volunteers, have a basic understanding of AYSO and the specific discipline in which they intend to teach -- Coach, Referee, Management or VIP – and a commitment to take AYSO’s Safe Haven® prior to being granted status as an instructor.
